I strongly recommend sheepdog training with Nij. He uses a calm, assertive manner that brings out the best in both handler & dog. His training fields and sheep are ideal for sheepdog handlers and dogs at all levels of experience and because the lessons are 1-to-1, the pace and particular needs can be tailored to the individual.
He has shown me how to move & stand to encourage my dog to get ‘it right’ and I end my lessons feeling inspired and encouraged to continue. His new book “Sheepdog training & trials’ describes the methods he uses & I find it has helped remind me of the different training exercises we cover in the lessons.

I took Tam a 5 yr bitch and Kip 1 year old dog, for training at Nij's.
I found his warm reception and high enthusiasm a really good start to the session. Nij's training technique is assertive and thorough without unduly stressing the dogs. I genuinely liked his approach in starting my young dog kip which was non confrontational but clearly worked. His patience with me as an inexperienced handler was also very appreciated. I only wished I lived a little closer to become a regular.

I feel I really benefited from the series of sessions Mist and I had with you. I found the sessions mentally (and physically) hard work but very rewarding and thank you for your perseverance and patience with me. I also found the explanation and discussions on what went wrong (or occasionally right) and why very informative and useful in helping me learn to "read" the sheep and the dog better and be more intuitive.
Working with you on a one to one basis really helped me move forward as a handler and I now feel far more relaxed and confident with the dog and stock which in turn has further helped my progress. I've still got a long way to go but I least I don't feel I'm completely useless anymore and I'm not letting the dog down - just need now to master that whistle !!

Many thanks for the recent training session Jack and I had with you – once again I came away with plenty to think about! Your insight into how each dog “ticks” is second to none, and any shortcomings or mistakes in my handling were quickly picked up on and solutions worked out and practised. The fact that you actually came out and worked with us and the sheep rather than just explaining things from the sidelines was very useful, confidence boosting and really helped to demonstrate what I should be aiming for. Next time you see us, I hope we will be shedding with confidence! Thanks again.

I have a very enthusiastic and energetic young dog and was despairing of making any progress with her training. I took her to Nij in the spring and have been very impressed with the calm, quiet and logical way he has helped me. Over a series of training sessions I can now see a sensible dog appearing. I have learned a lot.

I took my dog training with Nij yesterday. It was the first time that me or the dog had worked with sheep. I thoroughly enjoyed the session, so did my dog! I found Nij to be a very calm and patient tutor (I am not the easiest of pupils). His instructions and teaching methods were clear and easy to understand. He was able to read both me and my dog well enough to push us and encourage us to improve. Also well enough to know when my dog had had enough and we were able to finish the session on a positive note. I would recommend Nij Vyas highly from the experience that I had.
